Panchakarma is a rejuvenating and cleansing procedure for the body and mind. Panchamahashusti (i.e. Ether, Air, Fire, Water and Earth) are the five fundamental components of each human which is a unique phenomenon that manifests through, according to Ayurvedic Principles.
Each person has a unique balance of the three doshas (tridosha) that arise from the combination of these elements: Vata, Pitta and Kapha. Disturbances in this doshic equilibrium lead to dysfunction and eventually illness.
As the panchakarma treatment is conducted individually for each person in the therapy process. Following that main therapy i.e. Vamana, Virechana, Niruha Vasti, Anuvasana Vasti & Narya Karma are performed depending upon the patient and disease conditions.
According to its nature, each human constitution has a special vata, pitta and kapha (VPK) balance. The natural order is this VPK equilibrium. An imbalance results in disorder when this doshic equilibrium is upset.
Disease is chaos, health is order. Because order and disorder constantly interact inside the body, one can restore order if one comprehends the nature and structure of chaos. According to Ayurveda, disturbance can include order. In the language of Ayurveda Panchakarma, order is health.
This occurs when the fire of digestion (agni) is balanced when the three waste products (sweat, urine and faeces) are produced and eliminated in a normal manner when the seven bodily tissues (rasa, rakta, mamsa, meda, asthi, majja, and shukra/artava) are operating normally when the mind, senses and consciousness are coordinated.
The illness (disorder) process starts when there is an imbalance in these systems.
The body must be ready with recommended techniques to help it release the toxins before the purifying process starts. Snehan and Svedana are these two methods.
The Snehan massage uses oil. A specific kind of massage that involves applying oil all over the body facilitates the movement of toxins toward the digestive system.
Additionally, oil massage softens and supplements both deep and superficial tissues, which supports and relieves the nervous system and reduces tension. The recommended dosage for snehan is one dose each day for three to seven days.
Every day, right after the snehan, sudation, or sweating, is known as svedana. It is possible to add a herbal mixture to the steam to help the person release more toxins. The effects of Svedana include the liquefaction of toxins and an increase in their transit through the digestive tract.
The doshas get full after snehan and svedana for three to seven days. Next, a specific panchakarma procedure is prescribed based on the individual's prakriti (body constitution) and vikruti (disorder).

Conventional Ayurveda recommends certain food and lifestyle changes at each step of panchakarma treatment. During the panchakarma experience, it is suggested to get enough of rest and avoid sexual activity, strenuous exercise, late nights, loud music, television, and other stimulating activities.
Aside from being cautious to stay warm and out of the wind, it's also advisable to pay close attention to one's thoughts and sensations during this period.
It is advised to stick to a mono-diet of kitchadi and ghee and to strictly avoid cold beverages, cold meals. caffeine, white sugar, alcohol, recre ational drugs, and dairy products. These activities should not be contin ued until after panchakarma is completed.
This diet is based on the principle that the digestive fire (agni) rests throughout the cleaning process. Further slowing down the process of digestion is the retum of toxins into the gastrointestinal tract.
